There are many ways to get involved with the PTO at Hyatts Middle School. Listed below are the activities/programs that the PTO sponsors. Please consider volunteering to help out with one of these activities.
- Author Visit:
- Each year an author is scheduled to visit the school and meet with students and teachers. A coordinator is needed to assist the librarian in scheduling the day for the author (arranging for lunch, coordinating a sale of the author’s books, etc).
- Back to School Store:
- School supplies are available for sale during the schedule pick-up days in August. The coordinator is responsible for ordering the supplies based on the supplies requested by the teachers, schedule volunteers to assist at the sale, set-up and take down of the sale and return unsold supplies. Also, volunteers are needed to assist during the sale.
- Book Fair:
- A book fair is held during a week in the fall and a week in the spring. The coordinator works with the vendor to schedule a date, set-up and take down the fair and schedule volunteers. Also, volunteers are needed to work as cashiers during the sale and assist the students with their purchases.
- Directory:
- A student directory is printed each fall that contains the names, addresses and phone numbers of the student body as well as school information. The coordinator works with the office to obtain the required information, works with the printing company during the printing process and oversees the distribution of the directories. Also, solicits for advertisements, if needed.
- 8th Grade Recognition:
- A special event is held for the 8th graders at the end of the year. The coordinator will work with the principal and 8th grade teams to plan, organize and set-up this event. Many volunteers are needed to assist the coordinator with this event.
- Logo Wear:
- The sale of OHMS spirit wear takes place a various PTO events during the year. A volunteer or volunteers are needed to order the items and arrange for selling the items at these events.
- School Store:
- Every Friday during the student’s lunch period, a store is open for the students to purchase school supplies. A coordinator is needed to order the supplies and volunteers are needed each week to assist the students with their purchases.
- Staff Appreciation:
- The PTO sponsors a day to thank the staff for all their time and dedication. A committee is needed to plan and coordinate this day. The duties include planning a luncheon, decorating and recruiting volunteers to help with the day.
- Volunteer Coordinator:
- Volunteers are needed throughout the year for many different events. This coordinator will prepare a master list of volunteers from sign-up sheets. This list will then be distributed to the various committee chair people and the PTO Board for use in planning and scheduling volunteers for the various events. Also, the Volunteer Coordinator, along with one or two other volunteers will act as the Welcoming Committee. Welcome packets will be compiled for new families that move into the area during the school year. The packets will contain useful information about the school and the PTO and then be distributed to the new families.
- Webmaster:
- Maintain and up-date the Hyatts PTO website as needed. This site will be the main resource to inform parents about the activities and events being sponsored by the PTO.
